Our Story
Patoniq was born from a simple conviction: the most extraordinary textiles of Gujarat deserve the most extraordinary audience. We travel across Gujarat — visiting master weavers in Patan, Rajkot, and traditional weaving hubs — bringing their work to connoisseurs worldwide faithfully, transparently, and without compromise.
The Craft
Patola is a double-ikat fabric — meaning both the warp (vertical) and weft (horizontal) threads are resist-dyed in precise patterns before they are placed on the loom. The weaver must then interlace them so that the pre-dyed sections align perfectly, creating the pattern.
The margin for error is essentially zero. A single misalignment ruins the entire piece. This is why double-ikat is considered the most technically demanding textile tradition in the world — and why genuine Double Ikat Patola sarees from Gujarat are identical on both sides.
Two weavers working side by side take between 14 and 21 days to complete one saree. The slowest, most intricate pieces — those with fine geometric lattices — can take longer. Time is not a cost to be minimised. It is the product.

History
Patola weaving took root in Gujarat's former capital of Patan during the Solanki dynasty, while flourishing across key centers like Rajkot as both Double and Single Ikat traditions.
Patola became the saree of royalty and aristocracy across India and Southeast Asia. Sultans, Maharajas, and international traders prized it as a symbol of wealth and prestige.
Industrialisation and synthetic alternatives threatened handloom weaving. Master artisan families across Gujarat fought tirelessly to preserve true Double and Single Ikat weaving.
A new generation of connoisseurs, brides, and collectors has rekindled demand. Patola by Majestic was founded to connect these master weavers with the world — without middlemen.
